Confines of the Past

Heart chews on gravel

Trapped in confines of the Past

Bramble’d memories

Pierce, constrain like blackberries

Parched-dry hunger gnaws at soul

Sunset In a Cup (Twiglet 288)

“Sunset In a Cup”

Was the last canvas

He painted for her

Perfect Hawaiian sun

Mauve and tangerine

Quiet as a whisper

Slip-dipping into

Delicate teacup

Etched with tiny blue

Omen she would only

Realize after he’d

Collapsed, never to say

Her name again, nor

Caress her face with

Palette-stained fingers…

Death is bitter, empty

Tasteless as love’s

Tears filling chipped

Pale-flowered cup

For Mature Audience

“For Mature Audience” means:

No filters for what is

Unacceptable, inappropriate

Content exceeds tolerance

For gratuitous displays

Of immorality, disrespectful

Conversation, violence

Hedonistic priorities

Irreverence, injustice

Criminal behavior/acts

Indecency, nudity

Exploitation, victimization

Conduct “unbecoming”

Discrimination, gross vulgarity…

What purpose does it

Serve, other than to affirm

Freedom of speech and

The Bible contains all

Of the above—as nothing’s

New since the Fall of Adam

Perhaps it, too, is not

For squeamish readers

But its descriptions

Exclude words I must

Convey as: “#**!##!*!!”

Regret (Sijo)

Why return again, again to night-shadowed tunnel, silent roar

Revisiting regrets has no power to change or slay them

But the pain, the pain…it never ends, though soul beseeches God

No Detour

I cannot bypass

Any longer throbbing pain

Sting of barbs still caught

Decades I would bend, curling

To protect myself in vain

Flickered flashes…Light

Courage, soul…trust the pathway

God’s true eye leads on

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalm 32:8, KJV

Voice Unleashed

Trampling through scarred brain

Lions and tigers and bears

Loop continues with

Scenes where I remained e’er mute

Fearing cruel reprisal

It’s past time, unmute

I’ll spill word-wounded soul here

Unleash voice at last

Vaporize grayed ghosts with spew

None will haunt me anymore
